Andrew Roth served in the U.S. Army before attending college, where he received a degree in English Literature and a supplemental degree in History. He taught American History for twenty-two years at the middle school level before beginning his literary career. He lives in Bakersfield, California, with his wife and is a proud father and grandfather. A native of Kansas, Andrew was raised with a deep love and appreciation for history, particularly the Old West. A Christian for more than three decades, Andrew’s hope is that his writing will encourage readers and rebuild lives. The passage he feels is his guiding verse is Jeremiah 31:4, “I will build you up again and you will be rebuilt.”
Why I Started Writing: After 22 years of teaching, a profession I considered my ministry as well as my job, I stepped out of the classroom only to find myself a little lost and without a real direction. My family encouraged me to write, telling me they loved my stories. I started writing, enjoying the experience of unfolding a story. I love it. Who knew? Of course, God knew. I am grateful to find a new and unexpected purpose.
Authors Who Have Influenced Me: Western writers Zane Grey and Louis L’Amour have inspired my love of the American West. Francine Rivers and Beverly Lewis have demonstrated how a story can convey deep meaning.
Books I Have Written: Wildfire For Rose was released in June of 2019. My next book, Renewed Redemption, is scheduled for release in the winter of 2020.
What I Am Working On Now: My love of American history has prompted me to produce several novels about the Old West. Settings include the Civil War, the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad, the California Gold Rush, wild horse hunting in the Rocky Mountains, and searching for treasure in the deserts of the Southwest. I hope to build my career, patiently moving each novel into publication.
